How creativity can inspire you in winter lockdown

Updated: Apr 10, 2021

"Creativity is intelligence having fun." - Albert Einstein

Lockdown has famously put a lot of restrictions on activities that we used to enjoy and that helped us escape from our daily lives. Esp. traveling and immersing in new cultures have been a popular activity in our spciety lately, whether it expands our horizon when learning a new culture and living in a new environment, and/or whether it is to post new pictures of our exciting life on social media. Some activities may have also helped us balance ourselves from stressful or meaningless work. Now with lockdown, all these compensating activities are basically non-existent and with the cloudy, rainy, dark weather outside, we may now even be forced to face uncomfortable realities in our life and ourselves.

But this can be a unique opportunity to bring all the excitement and curiosity you experience when traveling into your lockdown life. Knowing that you have the intelligence, follow Einstein`s advice to have fun with your intelligence and re-think your current activities during lockdown - rather than adding on more activities, bring in depth into your existing ones. Here are some ideas that inspire you for even more - we can always make the most of our situation. So the mantra here is to focus on what you can control :)

Brainstorm with fun and be open to try something out new without any expectations:

  • Craftsmanship (e.g. photo books, painting, re-decorating)

  • "Come Dine With Me" / 3-course-menu rating others` cooking skills

  • Karaoke / dancing evenings

  • Gaming evenings (e.g. Taboo or online with family / friends)

  • Zoom book clubs / interest groups

  • Motto days honouring a country (e.g. Mexico with tacos, bolero, Frida Kahlo, Maluma music)

  • Rituals, such as expressing gratitude with family / friends

  • Cooking new recipes

  • Online course (e.g. education, personal development, exercise)

  • Meditation / mindfulness practice

  • Relationships (deepening existing ones, revitalizing old ones, making new ones)

  • Online dating (staying connecting, exploring, and learning about one`s values)

  • Reading new genres

  • Online business / blogging / podcasting / videos

  • Walking new routes

  • Fashion (experimenting with new clothes / outfits)

  • Finances / money mindset / investments

  • Self-care (e.g. hot tub, watching movies, doing nothing)

  • Safe volunteering

  • Surprising others

  • Watching movies online with others

  • ...

  • ......

  • .........

However the forms of life may look like, we always have the ability to create any experience within this life form. So even with restrictions (and also without), we can count our blessings and go into depth to renew our experiences we have in our life. Let your creativity flow to give you a new perspective on your life and learn that you have always been operating in a field of opportunities!
